Caregivers of the Month for December and January
Madelia, Minn. – The winner of the Caregiver of the month in December at Madelia Health was Abby Zavala. Zavala is an Environmental Services (EVS) Technician and has been working at Madelia Health since September, 2022.
She was nominated by a coworker who chose to remain anonymous: “You’re already two hours into your shift when I get here, and having the work split makes it so much easier. Your advice has always been helpful and I admire your work ethic.”
Zavala was born in Naples, Florida, and moved to the area when she was very young. Her family consists of a three-year-old son, Abraham, and her mom, Veronica. She is a graduate of St. James High School, enjoys deer hunting, and the movie Titanic is her favorite.
When asked what she liked the most about working at Madelia Health, Zavala said, “I enjoy communicating with everyone and making sure that Madelia Health looks sharp and is sanitized. It feels like home here, and I appreciated being welcomed back.”
The winner of the Caregiver of the month in January was Heather Nase. Nase is a Radiologic Technologist and has been working at Madelia Health since 2011.
Melissa Hunt, Radiology Manager, nominated Heather and stated, “She stayed in town during the winter storm to ensure the department had staffing. She also adapted the schedule and picked up shifts. Thank you!!”
Nase was born and raised in Madelia and is a Hometown Girl. She has a bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technologies from Presentation College in Fairmont. She is certified in X-ray, bone densitometry, mammography and computed tomography. Nase’s family includes her husband Jeremy Nase and newborn son, Dakota. Todd and Deb Simpson are her parents, and she has one sister in Sacramento, Haley. In her spare time Nase enjoys traveling and spending time at the lake. She also likes being outside working on various projects and spending quality time with friends and family.
When asked what she likes the most about working at Madelia Health, Nase stated, “I like the variety of jobs that I get to perform. For a small-town hospital, we are fortunate to work on some of the best equipment because of the grants we have received to update it.”
Madelia Health staff members are encouraged to recognize their co-workers with SHOUT-OUTS for doing exemplary work, going above and beyond for our patients and coworkers, or just being a positive person to work with. All nominees receive a treat in recognition of their SHOUT-OUT. At the end of each month the names of the SHOUT-OUT recipients are put in a drawing for the Caregiver of the Month. The winner receives a gift card plus the honor of parking in the Caregiver of the Month parking spot. At the end of the year, the caregiver who has the most SHOUT-OUTS will be the Employee of the Year for Madelia Health.
